HACKENSACK — The driver of a tractor-trailer died early Monday morning after the vehicle careened into a guardrail and struck a tree on Route 17, according to the Bergen County Police Department. Police declined to release the identity of the man until his family was notified. There were no other injuries.
The accident occurred around 3 a.m. Monday, and the left lane of traffic southbound was still closed as police continued to investigate and clean up the site around 9 a.m. The trailer was empty, but police said that a hazardous materials team was called to the site because of fuel spillage.
