Elmwood Park man charged with criminal sexual contact, endangering welfare of child

ELMWOOD PARK — A borough man who allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old female acquaintance has been charged with criminal sexual contact, authorities said Sunday.

Carlos Zambrano, 31, was being held Sunday in the Bergen County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail, pending an arraignment on Tuesday.

Zambrano, a maintenance worker, allegedly provided the teen with alcohol and smoked marijuana with the victim, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said in a statement.

The alleged incidents were originally reported to Garfield police who also assisted in the investigation, Molinelli said.

Zambrano was arrested Saturday by borough police and detectives from the prosecutor’s Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit.

Zambrano also was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, Molinelli said.

Superior Court Judge Brian Maratinotti, ordered Zambrano not to have any contact with the victim, Molinelli said.
