ENGLEWOOD — A father upset to find his daughter’s boyfriend in his home at 5:55 a.m. allegedly pistol whipped the teen and threatened to shoot him, police said.

The 19-year-old boyfriend called police just before 6 a.m. after the incident. Police found the teen at a 2nd Street home with several cuts on his head, said Chief Arthur O’Keefe.

The daughter, also 19, came outside of the home and told police her father had a gun inside, O’Keefe said. Police surrounded the home, and the father appeared in the doorway.

Officers ordered the man to the ground and handcuffed him at gunpoint. The man told police the gun was under his bed, which was where police found a 9 mm handgun, O’Keefe said.

Three children, between the ages of 4 and 9, were in the home at the time, O’Keefe said. The man, who police identified as Shanton Brown-Fields, 38, was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Other charges were pending, O’Keefe said.

The boyfriend came into the house overnight against the father’s wishes, O’Keefe said.

The boyfriend, from Paterson, was taken to Englewood Hospital for treatment.
