HAWTHORNE — A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Rea Avenue and Third Avenue in Hawthorne on Friday morning left two people injured.
A 2004 silver Infiniti Crossover, driven by Jose Rivera of North Haledon, and a white Ford Econoline van, driven by Leonardo Orovco-Munayco of Mountlake Terrace, Washington, crashed around 11:15 a.m.
Rivera’s passenger’s, Helen Troya of North Haledon, and his 13-year-old son, Jose, were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center in Paterson. Troya sustained head and neck injuries that are not life-threatening and the boy was being evaluated, according to police.
Hawthorne police Capt. Richard McAuliffe said that the crash occurred as “the silver car was headed east on Ray making left on Third while the white van was going west on Ray and they collided.”
An eyewitness reported that one person had to be extricated from the wreckage of the Infiniti and the Ford van, from Metropolitan Tile & Stone Design.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation, though no summons was issued.
