PATERSON — An 18-year-old Paterson man was shot in the head after he got into a fight at a nearby McDonald’s early Saturday morning.
At approximately, 4:30 a.m. patrol officers alerted by Shotspotter — a firearm detection alarm used in the city — arrived near 460 Broadway and found the man on the ground with a bullet wound in his head. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center and is in serious critical condition.
Earlier in the morning, witnesses said the man got into an altercation at a nearby McDonald’s at 485 Broadway.
Humphrey said the location of the shooting was near where 7-year-old Edryangel Gonzalez was shot and killed by his father last December and is also close to Broadway Fried Chicken at 462 Broadway, the location where Paterson Police Officer Tyron D. Franklin was killed during a holdup at the takeout restaurant three years ago.
Police said 40 people have been wounded by gunfire in Paterson this year; thirteen have died from their wounds.
Humphrey said anyone with information about the shooting should contact the police detective bureau at 973-321-1120.
